Is Your AC Already at Work Again? Watch Out for These Problems!

Monday, January 23rd, 2017

cats-and-air-conditionerIt’s a warm winter we’re experiencing here in Corpus Christi, and that’s why last week we brought up the idea of getting a head start on your air conditioning maintenance. With temperatures that are already this warm, it pays to be prepared!

If you’re already running your air conditioner ahead of its maintenance schedule, make sure to keep a close watch on its performance. (And don’t delay arranging for the maintenance visit. We have an excellent Service Efficiency Agreement that will get the job done.) An air conditioning system that starts running at this time of the year has a long stretch of work behind it… all the way back to last spring. The amount of stress an AC accumulates over this time can easily lead to a malfunction. So while you’re planning for the maintenance visit, pay careful attention to any of the following behavior from your cooling system—and then call for air conditioning repairs right away! (more…)

It May Already Be Time for Air Conditioning Maintenance

Monday, January 16th, 2017

Large parts of the Midwest are bracing for a possible ice storm that may sweep through this week. However, down here in the farthest southern parts of Texas, none of that will touch us. In fact, we’re enjoying weather that’s sometimes even rising into the low 80s at midday. It’s a warm January, and that means it’s already a good time to ask if you should schedule air conditioning maintenance.

To which we answer, “Why not? It certainly can’t hurt. Maintenance is always a smart idea.” All you have to do is sign up for our Service Efficiency Agreement and we’ll get you on the schedule. (more…)

The Tricky Trouble with Finding the Right Air Filters

Monday, January 9th, 2017

If you have concerns about the quality of the air circulating around your house, you aren’t alone! Homes all over the country experience trouble with their indoor air quality because there’s little chance for fresh air to flow through them. A well-insulated home helps keep the heating and air conditioning system from suffering extra strain… but it can also mean a high concentration of trapped contaminants.

Putting in special air filters in the HVAC system is one of the most cost-effective ways of improving your home’s air. But if you’re considering an air filtration system for your home in Corpus Christi, TX, or the surrounding areas, you’ll run up against the dilemma of how powerful the filtration needs to be. Is It Possible to Install Ductless Heating Myself?

Monday, January 2nd, 2017

There’s a law of the Internet: “If it’s something you want to do yourself, the Internet will tell you how to do it.” But this law should be changed to, “If it’s something you want to do yourself, the Internet will try to tell you how to do it.”

No matter how many “How To” videos you watch on certain subjects, you still won’t be able to handle them yourself unless you have proper training. “How to varnish your own table” video—that might work. “How to repair a low-earth orbit satellite” video—probably not.

A ductless heating and cooling system isn’t as complex as satellites, but it still falls into the category of “things the Internet can’t really teach you to do.” It’s true that putting in ductless mini splits is a simpler installation job than putting in a central heating and cooling system. But it still requires professionals for a number of reasons.

Proper sizing

Any new heating and cooling system for a house must be matched to the homes specific comfort requirements. A system that’s oversized will waste power as it cycles on and off rapidly; a system that’s undersized won’t deliver the right heating and cooling. With a ductless system comes the specific concern about how many mini splits to use indoors, and how many and what power of outdoor unit to use. This takes experienced professionals to determine accurately.

Air handler mounting

The small indoor air handlers can’t just be mounted up on a few nails like a framed picture. They must have special mounting frames secured first so they won’t rip off the walls. A hole must be bored through the wall behind each one to allow for the condensate, refrigerant, and power line to pass through. This work is something to leave to professionals—otherwise too much can go wrong.

This is only the start of the reasons to leave ductless heating and cooling installation to the experts. But experts are easy to find in Corpus Christi, TX: simply contact Justice Air Conditioning & Heating.
