Two Ways to Get Zone Control with Air Conditioning Installation

Thursday, January 29th, 2015

Wouldn’t it be nice if all of the members of your family got to set the temperature in their own rooms to their exact individual preferences? You would hear no more complaints about the temperatures throughout the home, or that the upstairs rooms were warmer than the downstairs rooms. This is achievable when you call a technician for zone control installation. With a central air conditioning system, this may seem difficult to accomplish, but it usually takes only a few hours to a day when completed by a trained technician. And without any ducts at all, you may worry that your only option for zone control is a series of window AC units, but this is also untrue when you choose to install a ductless AC in Corpus Christi

Zone Control System in the Ductwork

When you have an existing set of ducts, a zone control system will require some modification. A technician must access your ductwork through the crawlspace or the attic in order to cut it open at points and install dampers. Each damper controls a particular zone, or single room, in the home. When an individual lowers the temperature in the room, the damper will open for more airflow. When no AC is needed in a room, the damper shuts. Each damper has its own thermostat and there’s usually a master thermostat that also controls each damper individually or all of them at once.

No Ducts? No Problem!

However, if you don’t have any ductwork at all installed in the home, it doesn’t limit your ability to get zone control. A ductless AC is one of the most efficient air conditioning and heating choices you can make for your home. This requires the installation of an outdoor unit and (usually) multiple indoor units. The indoor units connect to the outside unit via a cable containing the refrigerant line and electrical components, which means the only renovations you’ll need to make is having a small hole drilled in the wall. Several units mounted on walls in various areas are necessary to cool an entire home properly and efficiently, but the benefit of this is that each unit is wired to its own thermostat for built-in zone control.
